Educational Qualifications
Dr. Giridhar A completed his MBBS and MS from JIPMER, Pondicherry, which is regarded as India’s premier medical institute. He underwent sub-specialty training in Vitreo Retinal Diseases and Surgery at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai.

He has over two decades of experience as a practicing Vitreo Retinal Surgeon. His primary areas of interest include Diabetic Retinopathy, Age-Related Macular Degeneration, and Vitreous surgery.
Work Experience
Dr. Giridhar A has made significant contributions to the education of young ophthalmologists and has raised awareness about diabetes and its implications for eyesight among general practitioners and health workers. He has conducted numerous educational camps in Kerala, training over 20 young eye surgeons in Vitreo Retinal surgery and nearly 50 ophthalmologists in medical retina, especially in the basic treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy. His training has extended to ophthalmologists from remote areas where such facilities are not available. He has also conducted many Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs focused on vitreoretinal diseases.
Publications
Dr. Giridhar A has published over 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals related to retinal diseases and has delivered more than 200 lectures at various national and international conferences.
Achievements
He has been honored with several awards, including the APAO Distinguished Service Award conferred at the APAO Congress in Tokyo, Japan, in April 2014, and the ASRS Honor Award for outstanding services. Dr. Giridhar A’s dedication to creating awareness about diabetic retinopathy, particularly in rural areas, highlights his commitment to community-related activities and education in ophthalmology.
