Dr. Ranjini H is a well-qualified ophthalmologist who completed her MBBS at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. She went on to pursue her DNB in Ophthalmology at Prabha Eye Clinic and Research Centre, Bangalore, Karnataka. To further specialize, she completed a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus from Sankara Eye Hospital, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, gaining comprehensive training in this subspecialty.

Dr. Ranjini’s specialization lies in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Her areas of interest include the diagnosis and management of simple and complex strabismus, childhood refractive errors, amblyopia, and visual rehabilitation for children with disabilities. She is dedicated to improving pediatric eye care and addressing visual disorders in children, ensuring they receive the best possible treatment.

Work Experience

With years of clinical experience, Dr. Ranjini currently serves as a Consultant in the Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Giridhar Eye Institute, Kochi, a position she has held since April 2021. Before this, she worked as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Bangalore Nethralaya, Bangalore, Karnataka, from February to December 2018. Throughout her career, she has been committed to providing quality eye care and has gained expertise in managing a variety of pediatric ophthalmic conditions.

Publications

Dr. Ranjini has made significant contributions to ophthalmic research, with several publications in renowned journals. Her work includes a study comparing femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery and 2.2 mm clear corneal phacoemulsification, published in the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology in October 2017. She also co-authored a case report on IgG4-related orbital disease presenting as optic neuropathy, published in the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology – Case Reports in July-September 2024. Other notable publications include reports on autosomal dominant optic atrophy plus syndrome, photorefraction comparisons in children, congenital cataract as part of a rare genetic disorder, and a rare case of congenital absence of the pupil.

Achievements

Dr. Ranjini has been recognized for her outstanding work in the field of ophthalmology. She won the Best E-Poster award at the KSOS Drishti 2022 conference in Kozhikode. Her research on femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery earned her the third-best paper award at the Karnataka Ophthalmology Conference in 2015, and the best paper of the session at the All India Ophthalmology Conference in 2017. She also won the AIOS PG Refresher Quiz in 2016, held at St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore, and was selected among the final 100 contestants for the Eurodio Allergan quiz in 2015.
